A sheep primarily grazes on grass and other vegetation, using its strong molars to chew and break down the plant material. After initial chewing, it swallows the food, which enters the rumen where fermentation occurs, allowing for further breakdown by microbes. The sheep then regurgitates this partially digested food as "cud," chewing it again to aid in digestion before swallowing it once more for nutrient absorption in the intestines.
