Who captured the mermaid of Amboina and was there any pictures of her?

The supposed "Mermaid of Amboina" appears to have been capture by bornian fishermen. In all likelihood it was not a real mermaid as there is no such thing, but an odd-looking fish. Unusual marine life from the deep ocean sometimes gets stirred up by storms or tsunamis. After several retellings the story would have been distorted from one of a weird fish to on of a mythical creature. This is often the case with accounts of supernatural happenings.

No pictures exist because 1 there was not actual mermaid and 2 the event occurred long before Photography was invented.
