Libertarians are unpopular because they threaten the status quo of the United States two party system. The Republican and Democratic parties essentially "own" the political landscape, supported by followers who with religious conviction demonize anyone not like them.

Ironically, it is the libertarians who are most like the founding fathers who valued individual liberty and responsibility while limiting the power and focus of government.

Sadly, the United States is in deterioration due to the over reaching agendas of both Democrats and Republicans who require votes and contributions to maintain power thereby forcing an ever expanding vortex of bigger government & higher taxes.

Libertarians understand the waste and threat of an ever expanding government.
