Why do you connect the timing light to the number one spark plug wire?

The vehicle computer commands the ignition coil to fire the spark to the plug at a specific time. The crankshaft pulley has a mark located at tdc (top dead center) position of cylinder #1 only , so you must use the cyl. #1 plug wire in order to accurately view the mark on the crankshaft pulley and the block.
