Is a leopard gecko a good pet for a 10 year old and his first lizard?

I've had my Leopard gecko for sixteen years now and they have been known to live for as long as twenty five years. As for being a good pet, they are hardy little critters and can go with out food for quite a bit but they are nocturnal and so you wont see it a lot and I should imagine a ten year old would soon get bored of having a pet they never or hardly get to see. On the other hand I used to have a couple of green anoles and if I ever get back into keeping Lizards they would be my choice. They don't live as long but they are very lively do funny little dances and change colour from brown to green. Also a friend of mine all so had an anole that was tame enough for him to take out with him.
