Viktor Fedorovych Yanukovych was the President of Ukraine at the start of 2014. He was replaced on February 23 by Acting President Oleksandr Valentynovych Turchynov.

Yanukovych became the 4th President of Ukraine on 2010 February 25, serving until 2014 February 23. Born in 1950, he first became a politician in 1996 when he was appointed vice-head of Donetsk. He became the governor a year later, serving for 5 years. He was appointed to Prime Minister in 2002 and while Prime Minister, ran for president in 2004. Although initially Yanukovych was declared the winner, the Supreme Court of Ukraine declared the results invalid, and the final run-off of the election was repeated. Yushchenko came out victorious.

Yanukovych led the main opposition party from 2005 until the parliamentary elections in mid 2006, after which he was again made Prime Minister until 2007 December. In the 2010 election, Yanukovych again ran for president, and this time he beat out Prime Minister Tymoshenko in the run-off to win the presidency.

Politics and massive corruption of Yanukovych's regime led to an uprising which eventually ousted Yanukovych from power. Although his removal has not been fully constitutional, this may be a moot point considering the Russia invasion and annexation of Crimea, as well as continued instability in the Ukraine.
