When splines are used?

Splines are sometimes ised to time a joint at the right angle of engagment, such as in vehicle drive shafts. The U-joints at both ends of a drive shaft must be aligned so that both yokes are facing the same radial dierection. If they are not aligned, the drive shaft develops tremendous vibratiOS problems in operation.

Splined shafts and sockets are used for transmitting power and at the same time accomodate axial movements of the shaft and socked along the axis.
