I would define a "planetary year" as the time it takes to make one complete orbit around the sun.

The farther from the sun you go the farther the distance one orbit is (larger radius = larger circumference). The length of the planetary year depends upon the distance from the sun and the orbital speed of the planet.

It should be noted however that some farther away planets have shorter planetary years than earth and some closer planets have longer planetary years (due to orbital speed).
