What does the death rattle sound like?

I just lost my mother, who had Alzheimer's for 12 or so years. She refused to eat for several weeks and then also refused ANY liquids. She failed fast after that. In 2 days, we were by her side till the end. But those last few hours were absolutely heartbreaking even tho we had her on hospice and their motto is "to keep them comfortable". I saw no comfort for her when the 'death rattle' took over. It sounds something like they are drowning. A sort of bubbling. Hard to explain,. but you will never forget it when you've heard it and watched someone die with it. I never knew, I will never forget.......

3/3 - starts a a small gurgle once in awhile then builds - it is very helpful to hear to know a person is in their last hours so you know not to leave their side - hard to hurry up and wait in the last days of a person's life, but the death rattle is helpful however hideous it sounds - it doesnt scare you if you know it inevitably comes... God bless my mom. May she now rest in peace.
