On June 01, 2009, Air France flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, France went missing over the Atlantic Ocean about 570 miles northeast of Natal, Brazil. The aircraft was believed to have passed through a thunderstorm when an automated message was received indicating a failure of the electrical system. All 228 passengers and crew were lost.
