Every horse owner/caregiver needs to know the vital signs of horses. The adult horse at rest should have a heart rate at about 30-40 beats a minute.

Horse respiration should be 8-15 breaths per minute. Respiration should NEVER exceed heart rate.

A healthy horse should have a body temperature between 99-101. The best way to tell the temp. is rectally.

The horse's capillary refill should be about 1-2 seconds.
