Do you capitalize the element name Nitrogen?

No, when I write reports I don't capitalize them if I write out the full name which is recommended. Obviously if you are using the short form (which I would not recommend for formal papers) such as Na or Zn then you capitalize the first letter only.

e.g. aluminum is often alloyed with zinc, copper and magnesium to improve its physical properties.
