Technically from sociological point of view, one question would call for diverse answers from many standpoints depending on how the question is raised and which school of thoughts employed to anwered. Some examples as follows.
1. From radical feminism, women are kidnapped, trafficked and/or sold as a result of gender partriarchy, that is from male's oppression and exploitation. Since women's status is lower than men, they are manipulated and repressed, being kidnapped, trafficked are only the forms of oppression, in the same manner of being beaten, being viewed as domestic and unpaid housewives or merely reduced to be "reproductive bodies".
2. Political economy theorists would claim the phenomena as result of the economic-driven motivation embedded in the politics. Women are exploited by the capitalist system that dehumanize them and turn them into commercial goods.
3. Cultural studies may suggest the cultural values that made women endure such calamities, such as the gender stereotypes and meanings of being women that women may sell themselves to fulfill their piety to their parents or to be married, as the society expect women to be.
4. From public policy aspect, the answer may be as simple as the unbalanced gender in China due to the one-child policy. Since son-preference is resulted from Confucius strong influence and with help of ultrasound technology which enables couples to sex selection, baby boys are outnumber of baby girls.
Just some thoughts to open up discussions.
