How do you work out one third of a number?

To get 1/3 of a number, you multiply the number by 1/3.

For example, let's say the number is 6.

Then...

6 × 1 6

You multiply the number with the numerator (the top part of the fraction) and divide by the denominator (the bottom part of the fraction).

For getting 1/3 of a number, you simply just divide the number by 3.
