Does it cost money to climb Mount Everest?

It costs a great deal of money; upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars per climber. And there is no guarantee that the climbers will reach the summit during their expedition. Besides the gear, you also have to get permits which can cost thousands and often need to hire a guide.
