The Lord's church was established on the Day of Pentecost. This can be found in Acts chapter 2. Verse 47 of chapter 2 ends by saying "...And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." (Read the entire chapter for more information on how one can be added to the Lord's church). There is only one church found in The Bible. Ephesians 4:4 tells us there is one body, and Colossians 1:18 says that body is the church and Christ is the head of the church. There are numerous references to churches using their geographical location (Galatia, Colosse, Thessalonica, Philadelphia, Smyrna, Pergamum, etc.) but these all refer to the church of Christ, see Romans 16:16. This is the church that Christ died for - "Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood." (Acts 20:28) Though there are hundreds, if not thousands, of denominational churches today, and though many of them teach some truths found in the New Testament, these were established by men and those churches are not found in the Bible.
