Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan was the President of Nigeria in 2011.

Entering politics in 1998, Jonathan became the governor of Bayelsa from 2005 December 9 to 2007 May 28. After surviving an assassination attempt in 2007 during the Nigerian presidential campaign, he was the vice-president of Nigeria under president Umaru Musa Yar'adua from 2007 May 29. When Yar'adua became ill with pericarditis, Jonathan became acting president on 2010 February 9. Yar'adua died on 2010 May 5, and Jonathan was made president on May 6, the day after.
