My nail was ripped off from wearing acrylics when I was defending myself from a punch. I suggest never to wear acrylics if you may be in a situation where you use your hands alot. Also, yes they will eventually grow back granted your nail bed was not damaged too much. At this point my nail hasn't grown back yet and it has been over a month and three weeks, but I spoke with other people who have had their nails ripped off or lost their nail due to injury or knew someone who did and they said firstly: It will grow into a hard shell (not nail), which mine has done and later approximately within one year, the nail should grow back. I learned this from a certified cosmotologist and a nail technician. Mine was surgically removed from beneath the cutical and sometimes severe trauma can result in either the nail never growing back (this coming from a surgeon) or it may grow back somewhat deformed (this coming from the nail technician and cosmotologist). The best I can tell you is protect your nail from any infection. Cover it daily with a bandage with some gauze and triple biotic ointment like neosporin and use what the doctors tell you. Do not allow for water to touch the open wound and let it heal for at least two weeks until exposing it to air. Also eat vitamins and eat plenty of protein biotin vitamins supplements and silica, these help with the nail and hair. Zinc is also a key nutrient. Nails show signs of malnutrition so eat zinc as well, if you have white dots.
