Southwestern Bell Corporation, originally a part of the Bell System, became a major telecommunications provider in the southwestern United States. In 1996, it was rebranded as SBC Communications Inc. after a series of Mergers and Acquisitions. Eventually, SBC acquired AT&T Corp. in 2005 and adopted the AT&T name, effectively leading to the dissolution of the Southwestern Bell brand as part of the expanded AT&T organization.
