What two factors stayed the same when Proteus was tested?

When Proteus was paddled across the river the testers needed to learn if the boat settings affected the efficiency at all. To make sure any change was comparable the test conditions need to be the same in all runs. Aka the WEATHER and the DISTANCE had to stay the same.
