you might be interested in the last major television revolution: the big change to COLOR broadcasting in the 1950's-60's. Until 1953 television had been strictly black and white. There were competing schemes for transmitting color pictures, but in 1953 the RCA "compatible-color" system was accepted as the standard by the FCC. Some television series were in color in the early to mid 1950's. (The Adventures of Superman was one.) Color became popular for westerns in the early 1960's (Bonanza, the Virginian, etc) before expanding to other genres. The last network black and white shows ran in the 1965-1966 season. By the following season 1966-1967 all network series were in color. Certain local shows continues to be made in black and white for a short time thereafter.
