What did enslaved people contribute to farming in the south?

Free labor, their children and their lives.

Other then just what we normally consider such as blood, sweat and tears the slaves also contributed their culture - which can still be seen in the style of music and religious worship.

What most people never consider is that slavery actually hurt the economy of the south since slaves being basically free labor meant that many poor white southern men could not find work.. also large plantations hurt the smaller farms that could not compete. We must remember not everyone in the south was part of the slave trade or owned slaves.

Slave labor also meant that it took longer for technology to advance in the south... since.. no one cared about improving farming methods... since they didn't have to do it.

While this is not to excuse anything that happened it is something we should think about... when we consider how slavery effected farming in the south.
