Who was the first Asian to go in space?

The first Asian to go into space was Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi. He flew on the Space Shuttle Discovery during the STS-114 mission in 2005. However, prior to Noguchi, the first Asian to reach space was the Indian pilot Rakesh Sharma, who flew aboard the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz T-11 in 1984.
