A prepotent response is a reaction or behavior that is instinctual and strongly influenced by genetic predispositions, often overriding learned behaviors. For example, in animals, a mother’s instinct to protect her young can be considered prepotent, as it arises naturally and powerfully from evolutionary drives. In humans, reflex actions, such as pulling away from a hot surface, also demonstrate prepotency, as they occur automatically without conscious thought.
