During the Easter Rising in 1916, approximately 500 men were killed in the fighting, with the General Post Office (GPO) in Dublin serving as one of the main strongholds for the rebels. Among the casualties, around 260 were civilians, while the number of rebel fighters and British soldiers killed totaled around 200. The GPO was a central location in the uprising, which aimed for Irish independence from British rule.
