In North America, you must complete a four year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (usually a BN or BScN) at an accredited university and pass a board exam to receive a licence to practice nursing. Once a RN, you need to work a specific number of hours in a given period (2,000 hrs/5 years in Canada) and must obtain ongoing training/educational sessions to maintain an active license.
