They illustrate the theme of nationalism by focusing on whatever events are occurring during that time period. Genre Artists depict people or scenes and illustrate how they feel about their nation with in the work. For example, in the 1800's, William Mount painted a picture by the name of "At the Well." It is a painting of a man, you guessed it, at a well. The man seems very happy and the American flag is flying in the background. This picture clearly illustrates the theme of nationalism by giving us the feeling that these people sure do love their country.
