How many jobs are available in fire fighting?

There are "some" jobs available in fire fighting. But what is key is understanding that the competition for them is fierce. From the outside looking in, if you are not in shape, have no training, and if you have no educational course work specifically catagorized as fire science, you will have an extremely difficult time getting a shot. Lots of openings, particularly in the "big" departments, are sought after by working firefighters from other towns or communities.
