During the Chinese Civil War, Mao Zedong represented the Communist Party of China (CPC), advocating for a socialist revolution and peasant-led movement. In contrast, Chiang Kai-shek led the Nationalist Party, or Kuomintang (KMT), which aimed to establish a nationalist government in China. The conflict between these two factions primarily revolved around differing ideologies, with the Communists ultimately emerging victorious in 1949. As a result, Mao established the People's Republic of China, while Chiang retreated to Taiwan.
