Chinchilla babies, known as kits, typically leave the nest about 8 to 12 weeks after birth. They are born fully furred and with their eyes open, allowing them to explore their environment relatively quickly. However, they usually remain close to their mother for nursing and protection until they are more independent. By around 12 weeks, they are generally weaned and can start to venture further from the nest.
