During WW 2 millions of people of the Jewish faith, as well as Gypsys and anyone who disagreed with the Nazi regime were rounded up and sent to work camps and death camps...Concentration camps they were called and whether you went to a work camp or not your chances of survival were small.

In order to keep track of so many individuals the Nazi's would tattoo a number on the wrist of every man, woman and child...After the war many had their tattoos removed but a great many refused to get them removed so that they would never forget...Hope this helps.....
