What are horses used for now and back then?

Back then, horses were the machinery of today-they plowed and hauled and caried us to new places. Now-a-days, most of the plowing, hauling and traveling are done by machines, but some people still use horses instead of machinery, and there are some jobs that machinery cannot do. Like in some heavily wooded areas, horses or some other equine are needed to haul fallen logs because machinery cannot fit. Police also use horses because they can go places cars cannot. Horses are used for showing, breeding, lessons, therapy and just pleasure, too.
