The use of Biofuels helps agriculture by opening new markets for existing crops and introducing new uses for what has in the past been considered to be waste.
Biofuel technology also allows the farmer to produce their energy needs on-farm. Someone with a dairy or piggery may set up a digester where animal manure is broken down by bacteria and a gas is produced. This gas is captured and used to create electricty that can, inturn, power the piggery. Excess energy may then be sold onto the grid providing a cash return to the farmer.
