No. High-purity gold wasn't used for circulating coins because it's far too soft. It was alloyed with 10% copper for hardness, which works out to about 21.6kt.
24kt gold is extremely difficult to produce because ordinary smelting invariable leaves trace impurities, which is another reason it wouldn't be used in high-mintage coins.
