What do the lyrics to Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues mean?

Justin Hayward is said to have written "Nights In White Satin" during a tumultuous time in his young life. He was seeing the end of one relationship and the beginning of a new relationship with a woman who eventually became his wife. He says there is a 'spiritual' component to the song as well as an 'I love you, baby--come to bed' component. "Nights In White Satin" has become so much a part of our culture that Justin no longer believes the song actually belongs to him or to the Moody Blues...it belongs to the fans. And of course it would be a lovely wedding song--it's all about love!
