Queen Victorias child hood

Victoria herself described her childhood as "rather melancholy", because she was an only child and raised pretty isolated by her widowed mother and mostly kept away from other children as playmates. Since it was clear from her 11th year on that she would once be queen, her life was moreover heavily regulated by palace protocol.
