well .. if you truly love him you should wish him to be happy .. but you can help him to be better ( you didnt mention why isn't he the guy you want .. ? if its his work - if he is working - then try to help him ) ..

as you stay in this relationship .. and you know you are going to end up with someone else .. I think it would be better to tell him the truth .. because you cant just be with him as a lie .. until you find the right person and leave him ..
