Can hitting and spanking cause damage to children?

Sometimes it can, and a child can be more likely to grow up thinking physical violence is the only way to get what they want.

There would have to be some underlying problem. Spanking a child shows there are limitations and boundaries. It is not a cruel device for intentionally hurting children, it is for the benefit of the child.
