What is a ten speed or tandem?

A tandem bicycle is a bike for two riders, one after the other, with a set of pedals for each.

A 10-speed bike can be two different things. Either a bike with two chainrings by the pedals and five sprockets at the rear wheel, or if it's a newer bike, 10 sprockets at the rear.
