Is electric force a contact force?

Subatomic particles - as well as atoms and molecules which are made up of such particles - have a property called "electric charge". This charge can be positive, negative, or neutral (no net charge). There is a force among such charges; this force is attractive for opposite charges, and repulsive for like charges. In other Words, a positive charge and a negative charge attract one another; while two positive charges, or two negative charges, push away from one another.
