They are a little like the police service, however they are recruited by the Federal Government. They have authority in every state in the US and can have authority in other countries when this is granted by the secretary if state. This is normally only

done when the head of the other countries have been contacted, I.e. When they need to go to Another Country to retrieve a criminal.
