Rigel and Betelgeuse are both prominent stars in the night sky, but they are different types of stars. Rigel, a blue supergiant, shines brightly due to its high temperature and massive size, emitting more light than Betelgeuse, which is a red supergiant with a cooler surface temperature. However, from our perspective on Earth, Betelgeuse can appear similarly bright because it is much closer to us, despite having a lower intrinsic brightness. Thus, their apparent brightness is influenced by both their intrinsic properties and their distances from Earth.
