What is London sign in blunt abdominal trauma?

Patterned Abrasion of the Abdominal wall is called London sign. In blunt trauma abdomen some times the impression of the object causing the impact may be seen over the abdominal wall- like Tyre marks/ Pattern of the clothing or seat belt etc. This is known as London sign. Clinical importance is that if it is seen on a patient we can presume that the initial impact was severe and the chances of having internal organ injury is more. Hence such patient should be admitted in the ward for observation or has to be referred to a higher center for further medical care.
