Most of the Earth's fresh water is trapped in glaciers and ice caps, particularly in Greenland and Antarctica, which hold about 68.7% of the total fresh water. Additionally, significant amounts are found in groundwater aquifers, accounting for approximately 30.1% of fresh water. Only a small fraction, about 1.2%, is available in lakes, rivers, and reservoirs for direct human use.
