Where was the first quilt made?

Quilting has been around for centuries. Fragments of cloth sewn in layers with some sort of fibrous filling has been found in artifacts from the ancient Roman Empire. During the Middle Ages, padded (quilted) garments were worn by knights beneath their metal armor. Because cloth deteriorates with time, it is difficult to document the actual beginning of quilting, but it probably has been an important technique as long as textiles have been used.
