Why is Saint Benedict pictured with a crow and chalice?

According to legend, some monks were unhappy with the strict rules Benedict had imposed on them in the monastery. They tried to poison him. First they placed poison in Benedict's wine. When Benedict prayed over it, the cup shattered. Next they placed poisoned bread before him. Before he could touch it, a raven swooped in through a window and grabbed the loaf and flew off.
