George Crum is often credited with inventing potato chips in 1853. The story goes that he created them in response to a customer's complaint about soggy fries, slicing the potatoes thinly, frying them until crisp, and seasoning them with salt. This innovation led to the popular snack we know today. Crum later opened his own restaurant, where potato chips became a signature item.
