He realized that if you cut the amount of electricity flowing through a light bulb, it would greatly extend the life of the bulb. So, he developed and patented (in 1960) a socket that would allow for two 7 watt bulbs to be inserted opposite of each other in such a way that they were connected in series and shared the voltage coming from a typical wall outlet. The socket, with bulbs inserted, was advertised as a "100 year night light". I've got 4 of these that I've had running for the past 40 years, and they've yet to burn out. The advent of the LED and other technology has relegated Donsky's invention to the back-burner, but I think the sockets are still relevant and I wish they were still for sale. I'd buy about a dozen of them if they were available.
