Amoebic infections, particularly those caused by the Naegleria fowleri species, are rare in the United States, with only about 3 to 8 cases reported annually. Since the 1960s, there have been a total of around 150 known cases, primarily linked to warm freshwater environments. While these infections are serious and often fatal, they remain extremely uncommon.
