An individual letter in a Word may or may not be a syllable; it is quite common that several letters are used to mean a particular sound. Every sound must have a vowel, and most also have consonants, which are modifications of the vowel. The analysis of the syllables of a Word, breaking it down into syllables, is called syllabification. Here is an example. The Word reasonable is composed of the following syllables: rea son a ble. Those are four syllables.
